Description

Procedure face mask  is used while performing patient procedures/treatment, or when patients are in isolation to prevent entry of potential contaminants. Procedure masks are used to protect both patients and staff from the spread of respiratory secretions, fluids or other debris. Procedure masks are used for generally “respiratory hygiene” to prevent clinicians, patients and visitors from spreading germs by droplet or airborne routes like while talking, coughing, or sneezing. Procedure masks have ear loops for quick donning, and since they do not slip on the hair, they can be worn without a surgical cap.

Structure and Working

A 3-ply face mask is the proper procedure or medical grade mask that is composed of three layers with each layer having very specific functions.

The outer layer is a hydrophobic layer that can repel moisture, blood and body fluids, the middle filter layer is designed to filter bacteria/viruses and it is the most important layer that also filters out the water droplets and lastly, an inner hydrophilic layer which can absorb water, sweat and spit.

Its three-ply material is made up of a filter material placed between the non-woven fabric. The middle layer contains a high-level static filtration to effectively block micro dust and bacteria.

There is an aluminum wire on the top panel to adjust the fit around the user’s nose bridge, and to thereby retain it in the same position throughout the use of the mask. There are two headbands, nose foam and nose clip. Has an elastic strap band/ Ear Loop.

Functions

• Block large-particle droplets, splashes, sprays, or splatter that may contain viruses and bacteria, keeping it from reaching the wearer’s mouth and nose.
• Reduce exposure of the wearer’s saliva and respiratory secretions to others that could otherwise travel up to 26 feet.
• Reminds wearers not to touch their mouth or nose, which could otherwise transfer viruses and bacteria after having touched a contaminated surface.
• Proven to be as effective as an N95 mask in preventing viral infections like influenza.
